|7th International Geographic Colloquium in Danišovce|

The 7th International Geograpic Colloquium took place on October 21st - 23rd, 2015 in the Study and Training Centre of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University and in the Town-hall of the Danišovce community. It hosted 75 geographers from universities and scientific institutes from all around of Slovak and Czech Republics. More than 40 scientific contributions were presented within three thematic sections:
- Human and Regional Geography
- Physical Geography
- Didactics of Geography
The first day of the event hosted also the annual meeting of the Executive Committee of the Slovak Geographical Society led by its president prof. Tolmáči.
The last day of the conference the excursion was organized. Attendants could experience history and historical monuments in Markušovce, experience and discuss the transformation of ore-mining and ore-processing, and subequent Roma population issue, with the representatives of Rudňany community and local Minig guild. Specific demographic structure and tourism development initiatives were introduced in Poráč community. After short walk-trip in the Spišská Nová Ves downtown, the attendants were offerd the closing lunch in the city.
The presentation by prof. Hofierka, the head of Institute of Geography in Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice was adressed to perspectives of geography at the universities in Slovakia.
Prof. Ira, the director of the Geographic institute at Slovak Academy of Science adressed presentation to publication activity of geographic institutes in Slovakia.
Doc. Halás, the head of Department of Social Geography at the Institute of Geography in Palacky Universrity in Olomouc, Czech Republic addressed presentation to the spatial impact of regional centers.
The ruins of old ore-processing factory of Rudňany remains total decline in the ore-mining and ore-prcessing industry in Slovakia.
Roma people arrival to Rudňany area is closely related with the construction of new ore-processing factory (1950's). Nowadays, the social, cultural as well as security situation of local Roma communities is among the worst in Slovakia.
Miroslav Blišťan, the Mayor of Rudňany (sitting) and Cyril Kacvinský, the head of Minig guild in Rudňany (standing) provided enriching information on the geographic aspect of mining history and Roma issue in the Rudňany community.
Poráčska Dolina Valley and part of the Poráč community. The community is interesting for unique ethnic and religious structure of its population. The attendants were provided also by the information on local tourism development initiatives.
6th International Geographical Colloquium in Danišovce took place on November 20th - 22nd, 2012. Its main topic was "Landscapes and its changes in geographical research". Hlavnou témou tohto podujatia bola Krajina a jej premeny v geografickom výskume. Over 50 contributions were presented by attendants mainly from Slovakia and Czechia.
International Geographical Colloquium in Danišovce
The Conference in Danišovce is traditional scientific event organized by Institute of Geography every two-three years. The event is an opportunity to present, share and discuss research results and scientific issues among geographers predominantly from Slovakia and neighbouring countries. Preferred languages are Slovak, English, Czech and Polish. The conference is held in the Study and Training Facility of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University located in Danišovce, within Spiš historical region, 70km north-western from Košice.
The 8th International Geograpic Colloquium will take place on October 24th - 26th, 2018 and will be dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Institute of Geography at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Faculty of Science.
